Wild Bird (#7)

Michael the Messenger, a true story by Jean Shen

A little wild bird was sent to visit Mr.Shen in California when he was about to lose his business and his home. The man had been very sad and scared. His stomach hurt every day. On the morning of January31, l995, at about 6:15 A.M., this man who was very sad arrived at his office building and found a wild bird blocking his way to the glass front door. This bird would not move. So Mr Shen reached down and moved it a bit. When he went inside he looked back, and saw the bird still sitting there, looking in at him. "Hmmm," thought Mr. Shen, "the bird must be hurt, I better check." When he reached down with his hand, why, the bird hopped into his hand and happily went inside the building with him. It seemed so peaceful and sweet that Mr. Shen even scratched the bird’s head. When they reached the stairway going up to Mr.Shen’s office the bird flew up the stairs. There were four corridors leading to many offices and laboratories, but to his amazement, he saw the bird circling calmly in front of his office, as if it knew exactly which one was his. The minute he unlocked his office door, the bird flew inside the room and settled down there for the rest of the day, keeping him company. This made Mr. Shen very, very happy, for he knew in his heart that the King of Kings, the Lord of Lords, his heavenly Father, had sent the bird to give him an important message: "Look at the birds of the air, they neither sow nor reap, nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of much more value than they?"(Matt.6:26)

When it was time for the bird to go, Mr. Shen said goodbye and watched the little bird, whom he called "Michael" after the archangel, fly happily into the sky and disappear among the distant trees. His spirit soared with the bird, knowing that his life was valuable to his heavenly Father and that all his needs would be taken cared of.
